What are you doing?
Virtually 'Cycling to Kolkata' by encouraging people, wherever they are, to ride their bikes and add their miles completed to our grand total. We are also encouraging riders to ask for sponsors, with a suggested aim of £1 per mile cycled.
Why are you doing this?
We are raising money to support schools for street children in Kolkata.
Read more about our work here.
Read more about our work here.
When is this happening?
The project is launched on Friday 14 March and will run until at least the end of May.
So you’re not actually cycling to Kolkata?
No, we are adding together the miles covered by any rides, young and old, recreational or serious, anywhere in the world, who wants to join in. That way we hope to cover the distance between Faversham (where our charity is based) and Kolkata (where the schools for street children are).
How far is it to Kolkata?
Google says it's 6208 miles by road. It's a long way. Can we do it? If you help, YES!
Why should I help?
It's fun. It's for a great cause. It will be a fantastic achievement for all of us if we manage it. You might get fit(ter)!
How do I join in?
You can cycle as little or as much as you like. You can team up with a group of friends or do it on your own. Whatever you fancy! Just let us know you are doing it, download a sponsor form and plan your ride. All the information you need to get started can be found on our On Your Bikes page.
How do I use Virgin Giving?
Using Virgin Giving is a great way to encourage people to sponsor you, and it makes it easy for you to get the money you've raised to us:
On the Start Fundraising page choose cycling as your challenge, fill in your location and the date you will be riding. Where it says: Are you fundraising on your own or with other people? click 'Just me', then click 'Next'.
Under 'Charity's name' please search for Khushi Feet. One of the search results should look like this:

That's us! Please select it. Fill in the rest of the page and click 'Next'.
If you are not registered with Virgin giving you will need to do so now. Follow the instructions (it's easy). If you are already registered, click 'I'm already registered' and away you go!

Anything else?
We're interested to see who can cycle the most miles and raise the most money. We're hoping to attract riders from different parts of the UK and other countries around the world. We'd love to hear stories and see photos of your efforts. All progress can be tracked on our Cycle to Kolkata Dashboard.
Khushi Says . . .
Khushi says: 'Let's be careful out there!"
- wear some kind of protective hat and appropriate clothing
- we're not responsible if you ride like a fool or sustain injury
- remember the Highway Code (or whatever rules of the road your country abides by)
- it's not a race - we want to "arrive" in Kolkata as a team
- ride safely (like Khushi said before)
What is Khushi Does Bollywood all about?
Khushi Does Bollywood is an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest Bollywood dance. To do this, we need people of all ages, dancers and those who have never danced before, to sign up for a fantastic day out with a difference. That means YOU! Find out more here.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. It's free. We are hoping that everyone who takes part will make a donation to Khushi Feet to support the work of the schools for street children in Kolkata. Maybe £2, or perhaps something more generous. No hard sell, though!
Do I have to dance?
We can't make you. But our experience has been that Bollywood is infectious, and this dance is designed to appeal to all ages and be suitable even for people who have never danced before. Ever. So surprise yourself!
I’m not a dancer so will I be able to do it?
Yes! Yes! Yes! We've seen Ash leading workshops, and before very long even the most unlikely people who have never danced before, or even dreamed that they could, are joining in. Bollywood is infectious! It's irresistible! We can't say this enough, you can do it. Just be prepared to give it a go and surprise yourself. In our Step-By-Step Tutorial, the moves are broken down one by one. On the day it will be possible to follow Ash and the dance leaders.
Do I need to know the dance before the day?
No. It is easy to pick up, and will be taught to everyone at 2pm on the afternoon of Khushi Does Bollywood. On the other hand, Ash Mukherjee teaches the dance on video here, so you can learn it in advance if you want to.
How good do I need to be?
Just do it to the best of your ability. That's all we ask.
What will happen on the day?
Full event information and timings can be found here.
I’m interested! What do I need to do now?
Just come along on at 12noon on Saturday 29 June. In advance, if you want to, you can also:
Do I need to register?
No, but registration is fast and free. It helps us manage the event and it helps you on the day. Just show us your registration ticket on the day and we will fast track your entry.
How do I register?
Use the form on the Registration page. You can register up to 6 people at a time, but please include details of each individual. Under 11s will need their own registration ticket, but should be registered by an adult.
What information is required?
Just a name and an email address. Don't worry, we won't pass your details on to anyone else.
What if I’m coming in a group?
You still need to register individually. If you are coming as part of group, then choose your group from the drop down list on the registration form. If you are the first of your group to register, then please add the name of your group for others to find.
Where is ‘Khushi Does Bollywood’ being held?
The Abbey School, Faversham. Please aim to arrive in good time. Car parking is available and free, and the school is easily accessible by road via the M2 and M20, though we are asking people local to Faversham to walk wherever possible. The railway station is within ten minutes walk.
What do I need to wear?
Bollywood is a fusion of Indian and western styles. No particular dress is required, but choose something bright, colourful and comfortable!
